Update

Things have been moving fast on campus. There is a drive toward the end of the semester that can only be achieved through keeping your head low and keep on keeping on. The month of November has been an eventful one in terms of building institutional support for the HistoryMakers presence. So far I have met with both the Fine Arts and Political Science departments to talk about the HistoryMakers presence at Brandeis - both with excited receptions. I have begun flyering and concretizing the coming Black History Month contest by laying out the red carpet through room bookings, art submissions invitations and departmental partnerships.

On a personal note, this is the time of the year that all students feel with particular intensity. The end of the semester is when its time to pay the piper and produce and make material, the conversations that have been theoretical. I am currently working on a project that compares the Cities of Havana and Santiago de Cuba and their regional rivalries. For another class I am writing a paper on contemporary Russian interests in Africa, and for another class I am writing a research project on colonial Jamaica. I intend to include the HistoryMakers in at least some way for the projects and provide some flair in that way.

Thanksgiving is this week and will afford me much needed time to plan out both my academic responsibilities and chart a course for HistoryMakers at Brandeis for the last month of 2021. 2022 will start out fast and will only give us little more than a month to prepare our contests and set the wheels in motion. I wish everyone a blissful time to gather in community with friends and family.
