Wellesley College

ISABEL (IZZY) TORKORNOO (she/her/hers) from New York CIty, is a first-generation Ghanaian-American young woman who currently attends Wellesley College. At Wellesley, Izzy has continued her passion for global Black studies by majoring in Africana Studies. Her courses have created an expansive understanding of the vastness and incredible diversity of the African Diaspora across the world. She has also furthered her interests in education through becoming and Education minor and has aspirations to increase the presence and centrality of global Black studies in K-12 curricula. With a love for the spoken word and her own family’s oral traditions, Izzy brings a level of deep intentionality to the work of The HistoryMakers. Izzy is a rising senior at Wellesley and will graduate in the Spring of 2023.

Spelman College

Hello, My name is MILENA CLARK. I am a current Sophomore at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. I live in Maryland with my parents, Lance Clark (Sr.) and Shawn Washington-Clark, and I have one older brother named Lance Clark (Jr.). I was a military child growing up, and due to this, I have lived in many different places. I was born in Washington State and lived in Virginia and South Carolina but Maryland is where I have lived the longest, for about eleven years now. My family has deep roots in Charleston, South Carolina. Both my parents grew up there and the majority of my extended family lives in the state. When it comes to my love for history, I would have to give it to my father. He really got me involved in different aspects of history that I know come to enjoy. I am extremely thankful to be chosen as an Ambassador for History Makers.

Howard University

ZOÉ COKER (she/her) is currently a rising Junior in the Department of African American Studies at Howard University in Washington, DC. She is a published poet and utilizes the poetics of the everyday to mechanize her writings. She is also a student worker at the Moorland Spingarn Research Center, where she is training to become a future archivist. Her research interests include African American Music and Culture with a concentration in Jazz History. After completing her undergraduate degree, she plans on continuing her studies at New York University with a Masters in Archives and Public History.

Grambling State University

FAITH KELLY CARR is a Louisiana native and senior at Grambling State University. Born in Homer, Louisiana, she spent most of her childhood interested in African American History.Educating others regarding African American history is her passion.She is majoring in History with a minor in Africana studies.She is a force within her community through several organizations including the Carter G. Woodson History Club, NAACP and is a member of Phi Alpha Theta,the American History Honors Society. She has a profound interest in historical archives and the preservation of Black history, especially that which has been overlooked. She has also been featured as a host on an oral history podcast, put on by her university’s history department called “Voices of Grambling”. Her goal is to pursue a PhD in African American studies and become a professor of African American history. Faith's favorite scripture and life motto is 1 Corinthians 16:14: “ Do everything in love.”

North Carolina A&T State University

Born in Atmore, Alabama , SANIA DACUS is an accomplished student currently majoring in history at the illustrious North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. History has been her favorite subject since she could remember, and it was an easy choice when deciding what exactly her major was going to be. Throughout her journey so far, at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, she has maintained a 3.95 gpa while also managing her social and work life excellently. Sania has plans to go to law school in two years, where she will graduate to begin a career in corporate law and then civil rights law. Ultimately, having the goal of fighting for an end to the mass incarceration epidemic in America. Fighting against mass incarceration has been on her mind since her eleventh grade year, and continues to be a pressing issue for her today. Sania hopes that she can be a part of the change that she wants to see in the world.

Prairie View A&M University

My name is DELICIA DRAIN, and I attend Prairie View A&M University. I am a junior and Psychology major who is looking to continue my education in graduate school where I will obtain my Doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology. Making this vigorous goal more obtainable, I will use my burning passion for writing and saving mental health to help keep my spark ablaze. I also have a passion for musical theater - whether it be performing or watching - and this has greatly assisted my public speaking skills and emotional expression. In addition, I love to workout and have participated in all four years of my high school’s varsity Track & Field team, teaching me discipline and endurance. With this, I have used all my hobbies and experiences to shape the person I am today, making me the sociable, goal oriented, and compassionate African American woman that I am today.

Alabama A&M University

MYLES S. MCCOY is a rising junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University. While on “The Hill,” he has accomplished many things, including serving as historian for the honors program and running hurdles for the track and field team. While on the team, he made Athletic Honors two years in a row. McCoy was also honored as the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) athlete of the week. When away from athletics and academics, McCoy dedicates his time to his passion for photography.

Brandeis University

ISAIAH JOHNSON is a graduate student of history at Brandeis University where he researches Cuba, Latin America, Africa, and the diaspora. He is also a student organizer in the Boston area who has worked on various racial justice, workers’ rights, and anti-war campaigns. Through his work, he aims to expose new people to the reality of the Cuban system and create new partners and advocates for peace through building human connections with their diasporic siblings.

Clark Atlanta University

SALEANA K. COPELAND is a rising senior at Clark Atlanta University studying History. As an inaugural member of the Quarterman-Keller Social Justice Scholarship Program, she engages in oral history work surrounding descendant families and healing. Outside of academia, Saleana enjoys comic books, cooking, singing, reading, and learning languages. She is particularly fond of Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. Following graduation, Saleana hopes to become an archivist for institutions such as museums, libraries, universities, and historical societies.

Florida A&M University

RACHEL M. HARDEN is a spring 2021 graduate of Florida A&M University and will pursue a Masters of Applied Social Sciences in History at Florida A&M in the Fall. Rachel played on the women’s tennis team all four years of her undergraduate career and will continue to play out her eligibility while completing her Master’s degree. Rachel’s interests and hobbies include reading, watching documentaries, playing tennis, and mentoring younger children in her community. Rachel’s career goals are to become an attorney or professor of history at an HBCU.

Fisk University

SOPURICHI NDUBUISI is a rising sophomore at Fisk University where she is an Art major with a concentration in Design and a member of the W.E.B DuBois Honor's program. Born and raised in Nigeria, she always sought out ways to explore and express her creativity through different mediums. When she is not illustrating or designing, she is volunteering with Turnip Green Creative Reuse to foster creativity and environmental sustainability through waste reuse. Sopuruchi aspires to pursue a career as an illustrator to tell stories and drive for representation through art and also a career as a designer to foster positive change through technology.

Fisk University

CHLOÉ E. RICHARDS is a rising senior English major at Fisk University. Aside from being a Student Brand Ambassador for The HistoryMakers, Chloé is also a student leader at Fisk University and proudly serves the Nashville community. Upon her matriculation at Fisk University, Chloé plans on obtaining both her master’s and doctoral degrees, with hopes of becoming a successful author. In her spare time, Chloé enjoys reading, writing, and watch Grey’s Anatomy. A quote Chloé lives by is “If not you, then who? If not now, then when”?

RICHARD WALLACE is a rising senior studying English and Spanish at Fisk University. At Fisk, Richard has been heavily involved in the Student Government Association as the university’s former Publications Director and now as the Student Government Association Vice President. In his free time, Richard loves photography & videography production and editing in his business, RichQuality Productions. Following his commencement from Fisk University, Richard plans to cultivate and improve his skill and talent by entering the Digital Communications field to use his passion and apply it where it is needed the most.

Howard University

HANA ADMASSE is an incoming senior at Howard University studying Legal Communications with a minor in Afro-American studies. She was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, with roots in Ethiopia. She chose Howard University due to its rich history, diversity, and multitude of opportunities. Since she stepped foot on the campus in 2018, she has fallen in love not only with the education but all of the different people as well as the different cultures she has been introduced to but also the different opportunities Howard continues to offer her.

Morgan State University

BRIAN JEFFRIES is a rising senior Multimedia Journalism Major at Morgan State University. He also is a United States Navy veteran with an associate degree in broadcast journalism from San Diego City College. His goal after graduation is to join the world of journalism and contribute to the dissemination of news effectively across many platforms. Brian is a skilled communicator, specializing in storytelling through print, photography, and videography. Along with being a skilled writer, he is an editor as well. In his spare time, he enjoys watching sports, taking pictures, and staying active.

North Carolina A&T University

JONEZIE COBB is a rising junior Political Science student at North Carolina A&T State University. In the past, she has worked with Democracy North Carolina where she encouraged North Carolina residents to vote by creating information sessions and speaking events around North Carolina. During her sophomore year, she was a fellow intern at NextGen America (North Carolina)and helped register and pledge students across North Carolina A&T’s Campus to vote.

Northeastern University

HUNTER MOYLER is a graduate student at Northeastern University where he is working toward a Master’s degree in History with a concentration in Public History. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond in 2019 where he double-majored in English literature and Journalism, with minors in Creative Writing and Latin American, Latino, and Iberian Studies (Spanish). During his undergraduate career, he worked for UR’s Race and Racism Project, helping to chronicle the history of race relations both on the school’s campus and in the city. He has also worked for the website BunkHistory.org and the news sources Newsweek, the Henrico Citizen, and the Capitol News Service. Besides history, his interests include genealogy, science fiction and horror films, and roleplaying games.

Northwestern University

CHLOE PORTER is an undergraduate student at Northwestern University studying Political Science and African-American Studies. She is a Posse Scholar at Northwestern, in addition to participating in student government and cultural affinity organizations. She is passionate about African-American history and education and has worked with local organizations and schools to coordinate events in celebration of African-American history and culture. Chloe is a dedicated member of her church where she is involved in youth ministries as a choir member, praise dancer, and a teacher for young children. She is interested in technology, music, law, and history; in her free time, she plays guitar, bakes, and enjoys British TV and movies. Chloe hopes to one day work in politics and communications.

Prairie View A&M University

PARKER CAMPBELL is a senior Business Administration student with a focus in Accounting at Prairie View A&M University. He aspires to further his education through the Master’s of Science in Accounting program. At Prairie View, he works at the Robert B. Coleman library reference department. During the pandemic, the department archived national documents and hosted a project to better catalog correlating records. While at Prairie View, he has maintained a few scholarships from high school as well as added on some new ones during his tenure. He hopes to be a good example for all the young people after him and to make his family proud.

Prairie View A&M University

KAYTLYN LITTLETON is a Dean’s List student at Prairie View A&M University studying Nursing. She attended multiple schools because she lived abroad (both Angola, Africa, and Budapest, Hungary) and within the United States, as a result of her father’s career. When she thinks about the experiences of living abroad and addressing the challenges of dyslexia, both have been instrumental in developing her into who she is. Her goal in life is to become the best female surgeon in America and to plant seeds every day for change. Her story, made up of learning differences, living abroad, many leadership roles, family, and faith, is the foundation for her achieving her career goals.

Simmons University

SHERANI HANSA is a junior on the Pre-Law track, double-majoring in Political Science and English with a focus on Literature. She is co-president of the Multicultural International Student Organization (MISO) at Simmons and is vice president of Asha, the South Asian Student Association. She also served as the Student Government Representative for MISO and works as a Student Outreach Representative for the Undergraduate Admissions Office. Previously, she worked as an intern at NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts. Through working for HistoryMakers, she hopes to expand and promote the usage of the Digital Archive at Simmons as a historical resource and an opportunity for students to learn about important African-American history makers that may not otherwise appear in textbooks.

Spelman College

JASMIN WOODRUFF is a senior at Spelman College on a Pre-Medical track majoring in Comparative Women’s Studies with a concentration in Women’s Health. In the Fall of 2022, she will begin medical school at SUNY Upstate. After medical school, she plans to attend either an OB/GYN or Family Medicine residency ultimately aspiring to improve the lack of access to women’s health care in minority communities. Specifically, she hopes to make a difference by working in a women’s health community clinic in a lower-income urban environment. She intends to educate and mentor young women about the importance of women’s health and wellness.

University of Virginia

SHUYI LI is a rising junior double majoring in Economics and Statistics at the University of Virginia. Besides focusing her academic interest on her majors, she expresses enthusiasm toward art, drama, finance, media studies, and gender studies. Shuyi serves as the director of events at the Chinese Student Association. Working in an NPO has always been a goal for her after since serving as Chief Financial Officer at a student self-run non-profit café during high school. As an international student at UVA, she learns the experience of being a minority, which enhanced her ambition to help to tell the “untold” stories of the minority group—which perfectly accord with The HistoryMaker’s mission and goals.

Washington University in St. Louis

JORDAN LEE is a multidisciplinary artist working between St. Louis, MO, and Boston, MA. He is a B.F.A. candidate in Studio Art at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. His work is often experimental and maintains a focus on the politics behind the violative use of surveillance technologies. Jordan became fascinated by the HistoryMakers digital archive after exploring the uniquely personal interviews of the ArtMakers collection. His goal is to share this remarkable resource in the hopes that others benefit from the telling of many overlooked histories and come to appreciate primary source material. In his free time, he enjoys skateboarding, cooking, making art, and listening to music.
