Dillard University HistoryMakers Black History Contest
The HistoryMakers Black history contest has been a learning experience for sure. The process of planning is diligent and quite demanding. As me and fellow ambassador, Akilah Northern, join our collaborative efforts to implement this event, we continue to learn a lot about what it takes to carry out this competition. We recently met with one of the judges, Dr. Mustiful, and went over some updates on the contest plan and outreach. The meeting went exceptionally well and we’re expecting to meet with the other judge to discuss updates this upcoming week. We are currently looking for a third judge and in the midst of communicating with potential judges. The location and date are set, marketing is the focus at this time. The flyer will be sent out once it is approved and updated, the hope is to promote the contest as much as possible on the Dillard University HistoryMakers instagram (@duhistorymakers) . A lot of changes came with the process, but they helped improve organization. My hope for this contest is that people learn about history with understanding the importance of Black historic preservation.
