Prairie View A&M Student Ambassodor Status Update
This past month has been a wild ride at PV. It has been full of finalizing and executing plans for The HistoryMaker Black History Month Contest. During the break, I kept the PVAMU_HistoryMaker Instagram up to date with various stories from the digital archive, and I have been spreading the word of the website's existence to friends and family. These efforts continued when I returned to campus. The past couple of weeks, I spent a lot of time recruiting active and thoughtful student judges from the Honors Program; presenting to faculty in order to recruit them to be on the judge panel as well; meeting with my advisor and the school librarian to get notes on their thoughts of the contest and the judging criteria; recording and posting the contest announcement video; meeting with marketing committee to get the contest publicized across campus; presenting to numerous classes and student groups to inform them on the contest and the website; and hanging my flyers around campus. I have even created partnerships with three teachers to make the contest structure part of their class curriculum this semester.
All the faculty that I have met with have given me support, a platform to spread information, and very helpful advice. Given this, I am happy to say that The HistoryMakers Digital Archive Black History Month Contest has been live since January 20th, and I have 3 students who have registered since then. But I am not too worried because, with the insight of my facility members applying the contest to their classes, I’ve decided to change the final registration date to February 10th.
