Tuskegee in April

In terms of outreach this week, Tierney and I have done several things to promote the archive. They include but are not limited to:

·      Meeting with Ms. Samuel and Ms. Graham to finish planning our culmination celebration.

·      Doing giveaways on the Instagram Page @historymakerswithtu

·      Planning to host a table talk in the cafeteria to promote the archive and the ambassadorship.

·      Future HistoryMakers Digital Archive Presentations

Over the course of the week, Tierney and I have developed a plan of action to complete the semester and finish with our campus outreach. More students have become aware of the archive and citing it as a source for “deeper exploration of academic concepts” – a direct quote from Dominique Jenkins, our Black History Month Contest winner.

In terms of how we are planning to complete these activities, we have been working with Ms. Samuel and Ms. Graham in the Ford Motor Company Library to finish planning our culmination event and final giveaway for students interested in learning about the HistoryMakers. As of now, the agenda is as follows:

9:00 – 9:15 AM -> Welcome and Introduction

9:15 AM – 9:45 AM —>Trivia and Discussion of Archive

9:45- 10: 00 AM —>Q & A

10:00 – 10:30 AM —> Refreshments and Prize Distributions

As of now, the date for the program is still TBD, but we are working out the logistics including prizes, food, and electronic equipment needed to set up the event.

As I will be leaving for Los Angeles on Thursday for a work trip, Tierney is planning on hosting a table at the cafeteria to discuss her time as a HistoryMakers Student Ambassador. She is planning to present on her role as an ambassador, different deliverables required of us as ambassadors, and the benefits – including travel and outreach opportunities. She is also planning on doing a demo of the archive, and teaching interested students on how they can do demos themselves. We will also be having a giveaway in the form of a raffle to increase engagement at this event.

Lastly, we are also still planning on having more demonstrations of the archive in entry-level classes. We are creating plans to present in both history and orientation classes to increase outreach and maximize our efforts.

As for next week, the topic for my blog post will be: mangoes. They are my favorite fruit and I believe that it will be interesting to see how the stories in the archive dealing with mangoes build upon and evolve along with each other.
