Ambassador Update at Prairie View A&M University
It has been a great week at PV! I can slowly feel all the hard work pay off and I feel like everything is falling into place. But it took some bending and some revisions for things to go as well as it’s going. For example, the registration for the contest is remaining open and my contest’s due date has been pushed back until March 5, 2023 at 11:59 PM. After speaking with one of my judges, political science professor Dr. Lee, we determined that pushing the deadline back would allow for more submissions. Dr. Lee is one of the professors that has generously implemented my contest into her coursework; she is using the same structure but prompted her students to have a focus on political science HistoryMakers.
Her student’s assignment is due March 5th, and she anticipated that they would not submit to my contest if the due date was fair earlier than the submission in her class. And I agree. As a student myself, I know that sometimes we wait till the last minute to do something, so I figured that if a student can submit their assignment to her course and submit their finished work to the contest on the same day, that would give students more of an incentive to participate.
With this decision being made, my judges will have from March 6th, 2023 - March 8th, 2023 to review the submissions, then they will lock in their top 10 favorites, and then they will have a zoom call on March 9th to discuss and debate the best 3. So we should have our winners decided on March 9th!
Other than that, I have continued outreach at more honors events. This week was the long anticipated children’s book reveal, showcasing the biographical stories of Prairie View HistoryMakers. It was a success - everyone spoke passionately about their historical figure, and some discussed that they were able to get in touch with them personally. At this event, I reinformed the audience of the HistoryMaker Digital Archive Black History Month Contest and passed out the updated fliers. It was great!
Needless to say, I am very excited for the weeks to come!
