Ambassador Update Spelman College

These past two weeks have been very eventful. Last week I presented at two seperate classes, one at 8am and then another at 1pm. Within these presentations I was able to not only showcase the archive and have audience partiicpation but also promote my digital archive contest. After those presentations, I was able tos ee that I did have new applicants apply to be in the contest.

I was also able to shift a professors mind on the archive. One of the profressors I presented for was an African history professor and before she felt that the historymakers would not help her class because it was rooted in African history. With the help of one of my judges and advisors, we are able to help switch her mind and tell her that the historymakers references a very broad spectrum even events and topics relating to Africa. This event I felt, was my biggest achievement this week in helping get the historymaker presented and out there to other profressors and students.

One of my judges (Dr. Nafeesa Muhammed) also sent out a department wide email in order to get her collegues involved and have them mention the contest within their classes. Overall, this week and last week I felt were the most productive in promoting the contest and the digital archive.

Milena Clark

Hello, My name is Milena Clark. I am a current Sophomore at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. I live in Maryland with my parents, Lance Clark (Sr.) and Shawn Washington-Clark, and I have one older brother named Lance Clark (Jr.). I was a military child growing up, and due to this, I have lived in many different places. I was born in Washington State and lived in Virginia and South Carolina but Maryland is where I have lived the longest, for about eleven years now. My family has deep roots in Charleston, South Carolina. Both my parents grew up there and the majority of my extended family lives in the state. When it comes to my love for history, I would have to give it to my father. He really got me involved in different aspects of history that I know come to enjoy. I am extremely thankful to be chosen as an Ambassador for History Makers.
