Dillard University Student Ambassador Update
This week’s outreach focus was the Black History Month contest. Because of an unexpected power outage on campus, the showcase had to be moved. So this week I resubmitted the event for approval. The new date should be approved in the coming days. I have also been updating judges and contestants about the change and finalizing the winner with the judges.
Also, I emailed one of my past professors. Mr. John Massey who taught Survey of the African World my freshman year, to see if he would be open to meeting with me to discuss the digital archive. His course and teaching style are a perfect fit for the archive, and I plan to show him how he can integrate it into his classes.
On Instagram, I started a series about WomanMakers for Women’s History Month so I created a graphic and post about the first woman: Jean Boone. I chose Boone ad the first woman to spotlight because she is a Dillard University alumn and her life is full of intersting stories and facts. I told a brief story in the caption about her activism during the Greensboro sit-ins, gave some quick facts about her in the graphic, and I encouraged followers to watch the interview to learn even more about her.
I am excited to spotlight more amazing women in the archive during the month of March.
