Diving into the smells, sounds and sights of my Major

Deborah Roberts was born the same year as my grandmother Sherylon Cameron. When it comes to my searches in the Digital Archive, I try to connect it with a major part of my life. Family is one of my biggest things. In tape two of the Deborah Roberts interviews, she explained how she went to an all black Houston County training school. The best thing about learning about history is noticing the patterns. Given that a lot of the history of African Americans has been washed down and unpreserved, the clips available learning about life during the various moments is so beautiful.

The HistoryMakers Digital Archive allows you really to dive in and find what relates to you. When searching for stories related to the theme, I wanted to find a women within my field. The archive etchonlogical feautures has 15 distinct categories based on the type of HistoryMaker they are.

Deborah Roberts has a great story behind her name and accomplishments. In her first tape, when she is asked about sights, sounds and smells; she says: “Sunlight, bright, bright sunlight definitely takes me back to my childhood because Georgian- middle Georgia, you know, I think about the summertime and the hot weather.” I have the similar love connected to hot weather.
